A good manly watch doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Some of the best cheap automatic watches are also great looking, and offer amazing value for the money.

Think about it: Would you really want to wear an $8,000 Rolex Submariner while scuba diving or defending yourself in a bar? Most likely, an investment-grade watch will only sit at home. A great manly attitude is to use and enjoy items, not put them in a closet to collect dust.

With that attitude in mind, here are five inexpensive men’s automatic watches that combine the sophistication of automatic movement with affordable prices.

1. Invicta Pro Diver

Price: Around $85
ManlyRating:
Movement: Japanse Automatic
Water Resistance: 660 Feet (200 Meters)
Styles: Black or Blue faces. Stainless steel band.

Amazon

The Invicta Pro Diver is one of the best deals in the inexpensive watch market. At a glance, the Pro Diver looks nearly identical to the infamous Rolex Submariner. Don’t confuse this watch with a fake Chinese copy, however: The Invicta is a respectful homage to the Sub, not a useless Faux Folex.

A Pro Diver can hold its own underwater, with a screw-down crown and a water resistance to 660 feet. A clear glass caseback allow owners to show off the Japanese automatic movement. All told, the Pro Diver is a fantastic cheap automatic watch with good looks and durable quality.

2. Orient Mako

Price: Around $130

Movement: Japanese Automatic
Water Resistance: 660 Feet (200 Meters)
Styles: Black or Orange faces. Stainless steel band.

Amazon

Like the Invicta, the Orient Mako takes its style cues from the famous Rolex Submariner. While the Invicta stays very faithful to the Submariner, the Mako takes a slight departure with the addition of a date setting button and styled notches on the bezel.

This men’s automatic watch is water-resistant to 660 feet, which makes it suitable for scuba diving. A one-way rotating bezel allows divers and land-dwellers to quickly measure elapsed time.

3. Seiko Monster

Price: Around $210
ManlyRating: Not Yet Reviewed
Movement: Japanese Automatic
Water Resistance: 660 Feet (200 Meters)
Styles: Black or Orange faces. Stainless steel band.

Amazon

If the Pro Diver and Mako are watches that James Bond would wear — stylish, suave, understated — then the Seiko Monster belongs on Jason Bourne’s wrist. It’s less refined, somewhat more brutal, and always ready for action. With a chiseled bezel that resembles a saw blade, the Monster will never be mistaken for a fancy Omega or Rolex. Still, the Seiko Monster is purely masculine and is a great timepiece for a man of adventure.

The Monster is designed from the inside out to be a tough and durable dive watch, and can be worn down to 660 feet. It has a reputation as a long-lasting and rugged machine, yet is reasonably priced for money-conscious men.

4. Relic Gunmetal Automatic

Price: Around $100
ManlyRating: Not Yet Reviewed
Movement: Automatic
Water Resistance: 165 Feet (50 Meters)
Styles: Gunmetal stainless steel band

Amazon

Take one look at the Relic Gunmetal Automatic Watch and you’ll see what sets it apart: A transparent “skeleton” face lets anyone admire the internal mechanics of this gorgeous yet refined watch. Unlike many other watches, the stainless steel of the Relic is subdued, thus the gunmetal name. This gives the watch a sleek appearance that should match well under a gray or black suit. The Relic Automatic may not be the flashiest watch on the list, but its sophisticated appearance is sure to be admired.

5. Seiko Diver’s Automatic

Price: Around $200
ManlyRating: Not Yet Reviewed
Movement: Japanese Automatic
Water Resistance: 660 Feet (200 Meters)
Styles: Black or Multicolored Bezel. Stainless or rubber strap.

Amazon

The Seiko Diver’s Automatic is simply a classic watch. While not styled as aggressively as the Monster watch, this model manages to look amazing on a man’s wrist while remaining understated and reserved. The Diver’s Automatic is a no-nonsense, practical watch that can be worn to a dive or to dinner.

It features a rotating bezel for easy time tracking, as well as water resistance to 660 feet. This model is not quite as cheap an automatic watch as the Invicta or Orient, however the additional cost brings respected Seiko quality and craftsmanship.
